Students at HCA start formal music education in Grade 6, the first year of middle school. All Grade 6 students take Beginner Band. In Grades 7-9 Choir and Concert Band are options, but about 3/4 of our students participate in Choir, Concert Band or both.
In Senior High, Grades 10 - 12, Concert Band, Choir, Vocal Jazz and Jazz Band are offered as credit classes. Vocal Jazz and Jazz Band are audition entry courses offered during the lunch hour. Concert Band is scheduled at 7:30 a.m. two to three mornings a week. Over three quarters of our High School Students participate in our music program.
A major component of our music program is the annual Spring Tour. Middle School students retreat to Camp Caroline for two days of intensive musical tuition with top choral and band instructors. High School students travel to and perform at major festivals. Past festivals include ACSI in Three Hills, and Heritage Festivals in Anaheim, CA and Seattle, WA.
