At Heritage, Grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 help to transition our students from Intermediate School to High School. About one-half of the school day is spent with one teacher, but students move from class to class for the rest of the day. Students gradually develop the organizational skills and self-discipline they need to work independently in High School.
Academic expectations increase in the Middle School program, as does the amount of homework. Students are assigned 60-90 minutes of homework a day. Students also use computers and printers at school and at home to complete assignments. High achieving students are recognized on the Honour Roll and Honour Roll with Distinction
Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, French or Spanish and Bible form the core academic program. Physical Education and Health are required subjects. At Heritage, Middle School options include Band, Choir, Outdoor Education, Computers, Drama and Art.
Service in Christ's name is a regular component of the curriculum in the Middle School program. All students participate in Urban Servants. Students travel to various community service locations such as Samaritan's Purse, Mustard Seed and the Calgary Drop Inn Centre where we encourage them to develop a servant's heart.
Our after-school competitive sport teams start in Middle School. Interested students generally qualify but students should be prepared for competitive try-outs. The gym is available for Intramurals only at lunch. Students are encouraged to meet with teachers for extra help.
