We believe that the strongest Christian character is built in an environment where family, friends and staff share common beliefs. Heritage exists to educate children from families who are committed followers of Jesus Christ (as defined in our Statement of Faith) and are active participants in Christian fellowship.
We require that one parent be a Christian (and/or the student, if he/she is in Middle or High school). By Christian we mean someone who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, having made a personal choice to trust and follow Him as Saviour and Lord (John 3:16). We also believe that it is important for Christians to be in fellowship with each other, so we also require the family and students to be active participants in a local church or fellowship group. All parents and Middle/High School students must agree to live by the standards laid out in our Parent/Student Covenant (.PDF) (See Documents link on front page of website)
All students applying for admission to Heritage must undergo placement testing or provide standardized test scores. We also review previous report cards and school records. We integrate a limited number of special needs students and low academic students into the full academic program, so admittance is not determined solely by test scores.
We are not able to meet the needs of all students. For example, Heritage is not a correctional institution for children with behavioural problems beyond those encountered in the average student. While we have a deep concern for troubled students, we strongly discourage consideration of the school as a place to "straighten them out."
In determining suitability for admittance to Heritage, we consider a number of factors including the ability mix of a class, space availability and family goals aligning with Heritage's Mission Statement. Early application is strongly encouraged. When classrooms are full, students may be placed in a waiting pool for consideration once a space is available. The administration reserves the right to prioritize student admissions based on class dynamics and organizational goals.
Students entering Heritage must be 5 years of age by December 31 of the year they begin Kindergarten. Students younger than five years of age on the first day of school may be too young to advance to Grade 1 the following year. Based on the recommendation of the Kindergarten teacher, Heritage may require that students younger than 6 years of age on the first day of Grade 1 repeat a second year of kindergarten.
Heritage does not discriminate against students or families on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality or gender in our admission policies or in the carrying out of our programs.
An Admission Application is only valid once all required forms are completed, signed and a non-refundable registration deposit is received. Please see the Admission Checklist (below) for details. Once a valid Admission Application is received you will be contacted to set up an interview
A senior administrator conducts interviews with all prospective students and their parents. The purpose of the interview is to:
Heritage Administration offers admission to all students who meet all our admittance criteria as space allows. We will contact you within a week after the interview regarding placement of your child.
